Maharashtra state’s new textile policy to offer capital, power subsidy

The Magnetic Maharashtra, the three day long Convergence 2018 conclave that began on Sunday, the state government will be announcing its new textile policy which will be for the 2018-2023 period. Chief Minister of Maharashtra, Devendra Fadnavis said that the policy will cover the spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting, knitting and ginning industries, among others.

The state government is taking measures to uplift the lives of weaving community and it will continue, the MA&UD Minister KT Rama Rao he asserted, launching the In-situ Upgradation of Plain Powerlooms scheme and ‘Textile Product Mela’ at Sircilla on Friday to help weavers develop economically.

He said that around 15,000 powerlooms will be upgraded into semi-automatic with the In-situ Upgradation scheme launched on Friday and added that the scheme is being sponsored by both Central and State governments.

Brandix India Apparel City (BIAC) signs four MoUs with the State government during the CII Partnership Summit-2017 organized at Visakhaptnam on January 27 and 28 at APIIC grounds with an investment of Rs. 250 crore to create 3,000 new jobs.

The MoUs are related to establishment of two Chinese companies Leung Fung Textiles and Tian Yuan, and two Indian companies Aggarwal Elastics and Manav Packaging in the Textile Park located at Atchutapuram near here.

The State Government to extend every possible assistance to take Chanderi saris’ identity to newer heights. Better avenues for craft of weavers will be explored through use of modern technology, stated Chief Secretary Anthony de Sa while inspecting sari manufacturing process at weavers’ houses at Chanderi on Sunday.

The Chief Secretary said that Chanderi weavers will not be allowed to face any problem. The State Government will make efforts to solve their problems at every level by chalking out an action plan.

The state government has starting cotton purchases from November 15 onwards at minimum support price (MSP)wards but this will not provide relief to farmers who have suffered a double whammy of poor yield due to dry spell and plummeting rates. Cotton farmers are looking at a rate of at least Rs.6000 a quintal which will help them recover their expenses. This time, with elections over there is no political demand to raise the MSP that is rather low.

FATIA urges the govt to take measure to safeguard textile processing units from collapse

The Federation of All Trade and Industries Association (FATIA) has urged the state government to take measure to safeguard the textile processing units from collapse, as textile sector ranks next only to agriculture in terms of employment generation.

They have expressed apprehensions over fructification of the proposal for establishing common effluent treatment plant worth Rs. 700 crore benefitting production units in Erode, Namakka, Karur and Salem districts.
