Iran Customs Administration to support domestic garment industry and prevent smuggling has introduced measures to systemize import procedures of foreign clothing brands. As over 8.5 million items of clothing were seized last year (March 2016-17) compared to 9.9 million confiscated a year before.

The measures, unveiled during a meeting attended by representatives of the Ministry of Industries, Mining and Trade, the Association of Textile Industry Producers, Iran’s Apparel Union and customs officials.

The Russian authorities have invited foreign clothing brands to localize their production in Russia, with new factories being offered long-term tax breaks until 2025, Deputy Industry and Trade Minister Viktor Yevtukhov said.
