Chinese investors show interest to invest in ginning and textile sector of Pakistan

Chinese businessmen are showing interest to invest in the ginning and textile sectors of Pakistan, said former chairman of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) Masood A. Majeed, who visited China. Chinese investors have agreed to relocate their yarn-making industry in Punjab, provided infrastructure bottlenecks were removed by the government.

He urged the government to relocate 200 spinning mills in Punjab, allow leasing of land at $8,900 per acre per annum and provide electricity at 12 US cents per unit.

The Pakistan Federal Minister for Textile and Industries Abbas Khan Afridi in his keynote address at the First Pakistan Textile Summit on Thursday stressing the need to formulate a comprehensive and long-term textile policy said that on incorporating the recommendations of stakeholders in the draft of the first textile policy, it would be forwarded to the Economic Coordination Committee (ECC) in next three weeks for approval.

Japan’s Fukui prefectural government plans to invest in the garment and functional textiles industry to expand its business in Thailand for which they have entered into an agreement with Thailand's Industry Ministry, said Arthit Wuthikaro, the ministry's director-general for the development of industrial promotion.

The total value of investment from Fukui in Thailand amounts to 10 billion baht with 28 companies operating 11 factories.

The Central Government as a revival, reform and restructuring package for the Kerala handloom sector has sanctioned Rs 141 crore for the current fiscal. Kerala is the first state to make use of the Central rehabilitation package for the handloom sector. This was announced by Industries Minister P K Kunhalikutty on Wednesday.

LT Textile Cooperatief U.A. (Netherlands) to set up modern textile plant in Karshi district of of Kashkadarya region in Uzbekistan, for which the company undertook liabilities to invest at least to the tune of US$ 55 million in 2015-2016, of which $17 million will be of the own resources of the Dutch company and $38 million would be taken as loans from foreign banks, without guarantee of the Government of Uzbekistan.

The Government of Uzbekistan issued a resolution “On measures on organization of modern textile plant in Karshi district of Kashkadarya region” on 31 October 2014.

Indian cotton exports likely to see downward trend to the tune of upto 7 mn bales this year

Cotton exports is estimated to be between 6.5-7 million bales (1 bale = 170 kgs) this year by trade source as against 11.8 million bales shipment estimated by the Cotton Advisory Board (CAB) during last year. Decline by about 45% this year (October – September) on falling demand from its perennial importers i.e. China and Bangladesh.

China, the largest importer of Indian cotton has reduced cotton import from India in recent months. The second largest Bangladesh has also lowered its dependence on India due to higher domestic cotton prices.
