Data on Chinese import to be collected paralyzing MMF sector

Minister of state for textile Ajay Tamta, who was in the city to inaugurate Surat International Textile Expo (SITEX) organized by the Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) here on Saturday, said the data on Chinese import will allow the government to decide on an appropriate duty structure.

With government planning to announce a new textile policy by April this year with main focus on manufacturing of value added products and export oriented goods that will benefit the economy. The government is also expecting Rs.30,000 crore investment in 74 textile parks, said Minister of State for Textile Santosh Gangwar at Make in India Week held in Mumbai.

The government has given approval to 24 Textile Parks in the last one year, the rest were cleared by the previous government. So in total 74 textile parks will be set up, which will attract an investment of Rs 30,000 crore.

Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar addressing a two-day National Workshop, held to strengthen Make in India in Textiles announced that government approved 20 new parks during previous seven months under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP). The Government would set up 8 to 10 more parks in the 12th Five Year Plan. These parks will be catalytic in realizing Make in India vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister.

Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar after the review meeting held with various stakeholders of the jute sector at Kolkata yesterday, key decision has been taken to strengthen the jute sector. The Ministry for textile has taken decision to make most of the unused assets, such as land, of the three closed mills of NJMC (National Jute Manufactures Corporation Limited) for economic activities. The focus is to generate employment. Activities such as apparel park or textile hub shall be considered.

The 5th edition of Tex-Trends India 2015 was declared open with the inauguration by Minister of State for Textile, Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Pragati Maidan (ITPO), in New Delhi on Wednesday. This event has exhibitors from across the length and breadth of India, including Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Bengal, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh and Punjab.

The show will also have theme area made by TEXPROCIL, NJB, EPCH, SETEPC, DISHA, CEPC to showcase uniqueness and strengths of the India's Textiles Industry.

Indian textile sector can easily add another USD 4-5bn to its exports with ease in FPS

Indian textile has a global exports share of just 3.5 percent that leaves huge scope for increasing it and the potential to export an additional USD 4-5 billion as China, which enjoys 35 per cent share, is slowly reducing its exports.

If the government eases tariff burden and raise overall concession under the Focus Product Scheme to 7 percent, the textile industry can easily add another USD 4-5 billion. The country's textile exports stood at USD 40 billion last year, stated Texprocil Chairman Manikam Ramaswami.
