Maharashtra helping spinning mills and textile units set up solar power plants

An official said the subsidy will be reviewed every year to reduce the overall burden. “One of the major reasons why spinning mills incur losses is the higher power tariffs in Maharashtra compared to other states. So we want to encourage spinning mills to set up solar power plants. It will reduce the power bills,” the official said.

Union Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar on Friday at a press conference talking about the Textile Ministry’s performance in the past two years said that under the scheme for integrated textile parks (SITP) implemented to stimulate development of infrastructure, 24 new textile parks have been sanctioned in the last two years, facilitating investment of Rs 4,500 crore and generating employment for 66,000 people.

Maharashtra’s 2011 textile policy has been the main motivator as it offers capital and interest subsidy on the investment made by textile companies which renewed interest in textile sector. In the last two years the State has managed to get investments to the tune of Rs. 7,099 crore and has created employment potential for 45,953 persons.
