The Union Textiles Minister informing about the measures taken by the government to provide relief to textile and powerloom industry said that the government has approved the "Amended Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (A-TUFS)" for technology up-gradation of the textile industry with one time capital subsidy for eligible bench-marked machinery for a period of seven years from 2015-16 to 2021-22, in place of Revised Restructured Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (RRTUFS).

The Union Cabinet to boost the made ups sector which is the second largest employer in the textiles sector after apparel on Wednesday approved a set of reforms, including simplified labour laws and technology upgradation for the made-ups sector which includes products like towels and bedsheets.

The government will provide production incentive through enhanced Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme (TUFS) subsidy of additional 10% for made-ups similar to what is provided to garments based on additional production and employment after three years.

The Union Power Minister Piyush Goyal to take up discussion with state governments on providing a level-playing field to the units in powerloom sector. If the states agree, the decision may be soon be implemented. As a result weaving units in the powerloom sector may get electricity at competitive prices, said a senior official who was present in the meeting.

A national-level meeting is convened by the Union textiles minister Smriti Irani to discuss issues faced by the powerloom sector in New Delhi on Monday. This is for the first time that key representatives from power loom clusters across the country have been invited for discussions by the Ministry of Textiles. Power loom weavers from the country's largest man-made fabric (MMF) hub in Surat have been also invited.

Union Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge) Santosh Kumar Gangwar on Tuesday inaugurated Apparel and Garment Making Centre, one of the most ambitious projects launched in the textile sector by the government of India at District Industries Centre Complex, 6th Mile Dimapur in north eastern states. The Government has decided to develop an integrated textile park during the current plan period and set up an incubation centre in the campus of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to provide common services and facilities required for manufacturing textile and handloom products.

The decision was taken recently when Union Secretary of Textiles Sanjay Kumar Panda was on a visit to the State of Odisha.
