Garment exports industry poised to register positive grow in 2017

The apparel export industry is poised to grow in 2017 with the initiatives announced by the government along with the good quality products aided by innovative design prowess will drive the change for the industry. Ashok Rajani, Chairman AEPC said in the evening of the award for excellence in global exports for apparel sector.

The growth will also help in meeting the target of Rs. 6000 crore and create 1 crore jobs set up by Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi, in a special package for the Apparel Export Industry.

Minister of State(Independent Charge) in the Ministry of Textiles Santosh Kumar Gangawar in a reply during question hour in the Lok Sabha informed today that government has launched Technology Upgradation Fund Scheme(TUFS), Schemes for the development of the Powerloom sector, Schemes for Technical textiles, Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks(SITP) and Integrated Skill Development Scheme.

He said that the production of textiles and garments was predominantly in the private sector. Therefore, the government does not prescribe targets for the textile and garment Industry.

Incubation facility a new venture in medical textile sector

South India Textile Research Association (SITRA), a centre of excellence for medical textiles in Coimbatore to support new ventures in medical textiles will commission an incubation facility in another three months. The dedicated incubation centre for medical textiles (textile products used in the healthcare sector) is set up at a cost of Rs. 2 crore and it can incubate two units at a time for a period of six months to two years , said Prakash Vasudevan, director of SITRA.

Union Minister of State for Textile, Santosh Gangwar addressing a national workshop on Integrated Skill Development Scheme in New Delhi on Thursday said the Indian textile industry needs a total of six crore skilled people by 2022.

Gangwar, underscoring the importance of skill development said that the new government under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought change in mind set. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is a step in this direction.

Buyer-seller meet to be held for creating ‘Brand Malegoan’ by Textile Ministry

The ministry of textiles, through its regional office, Navi Mumbai, is hosting a two-day buyer-seller meet for the first time for creating ‘Brand Malegaon’. Though the ministry has organized such meeting at various textile clusters at regular intervals, this is the first time that such an event is being organized in Malegaon. It is a move to boost the efforts of the textile commissioner's office, in association with Malegaon Industries' & Manufacturers' Association (MIMA).

Centre gives approval under Integrated Skill Development Scheme (ISDS) of the Ministry of Textiles for upgrading skill of 4,260 persons. The J&K State’s proposal, which was recently approved by a High-Powered Committee of the Union Textile Ministry, sees skill up-gradation of 4,260 youth at a total cost of Rs. 9.24 crore during the 12th Five Year Plan under Component 1. The scheme will be implemented by the Indian Institute of Carpet Technology (IICT). The Minister of State for Industries & Commerce, Sajjad Ahmad Kichloo, has welcomed the approval.
