Workshop on ISDS to give new direction to Indian textiles industry

Union Minister of State for Textile, Santosh Gangwar addressing a national workshop on Integrated Skill Development Scheme in New Delhi on Thursday said the Indian textile industry needs a total of six crore skilled people by 2022.

Gangwar, underscoring the importance of skill development said that the new government under the leadership of Hon’ble Prime Minister Narendra Modi has brought change in mind set. The Ministry of Skill Development and Entrepreneurship is a step in this direction.

The Ministry of Textiles, in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision of ‘Make in India’, has organised a two-day national workshop in Surat today. The workshop is aimed to help Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) more effective.

SITP wants to fill infrastructure gap in the textiles and apparel industry. It seeks to do this by encouraging the industry to set up greenfield industrial parks with partial capital grant support from the ministry.

Almost all textile-rich States in India have textile parks except Odisha. Considering the potential that the industry has in the State, the Ministry is keen on setting up a textile park here that would help the arts and its artisans, the Union Textile Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar said after inaugurating ‘Design Sutra’, a national workshop on promotion of handloom and fashion at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in the Capital City.
