The first ever Yarndale festival took place in September 2013 which proved to be a runaway success for both exhibitors and visitors alike. Assam would soon have an integrated textile park at Naharkatia in Dibrugarh district which will boost its handloom and textile sector. The ARTFED park will be set up under a National Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks, launched in 2005. The park would create nearly 2,800 direct and 4,200 indirect employment opportunities.

The textile park would be set up on 268 bighas of land of Chankharu Pather which will involve investment to the tune of Rs 49.17 crore. While the 90 percent cost would be borne by the Union Government, the land has been allotted by the State government.

Japanese company Nitura that planned to build a textile complex with units for spinning, weaving and apparel manufacture in the city of Nacala-Porto, in Mozambique’s Nampula province has announced the postponement of the project, apparently, due to a lack of security in some areas of Sofala province.
 
The project also included opening a cotton-based raw materials production centre, in Malema district, on a 4,000-hectare plot, to produce the cotton needed for the textile complex to operate and a seed-cotton processing factory in Nacala-Porto.

Südwolle Group, a German-based producer of spun wool yarns plans to open its first U.S. distribution facility in Mount Airy. It is projected to open this month. The 94-year-old family owned company, based in Nuremberg, makes pure wool and wool-blend worsted spun yarns for weaving, and circular and flat knitting. It also has operations in Australia, China, Italy, Poland and Romania.

Zohra Chatterji, Secretary, Ministry of Textiles has expressed serious concern over the negative growth witnessed in the handloom sector at the meet organised by the National Handloom Development Corporation under the aegis of Development Commissioner for Handlooms and supported by National Textile Corporation for establishing market linkages and capacity building.
