Indonesian to raise import tariff on finished goods covers textiles

The Indonesian government to regularize its tariffs is evaluate the possibility of raising import duties on a wide range of finished goods. According to Industry Ministry’s director of Industry Climate and Quality Policy Research Center Haris Munandar, the potential hike will cover 741 out of over 10,000 existing tariff codes in the current customs system, cover textiles.

The step will support their goal to reach an ideal tariff system where [imported] finished products are charged with higher duties compared to raw materials or intermediate goods.

Manufacturing has been shifting away from the more expensive southern China to Southeast and South Asian countries such as Vietnam and Bangladesh. The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has so far managed to close and demolished 363 textile dyeing, printing and bleaching units functioning in Erode district that were running without any license during the last three years and the untreated waste water was being discharged in the water sources, this was informed by a senior official today.

Bulgarian export of clothing and textile marked growth in 2013 with exports reaching 1.8 billion euros - the highest level of Bulgarian exports since 2007. A 7 percent growth in export has been marked in comparison to 2012. Out of those 1.8 billion, export of textiles totaled € 328 million or about 18% of the total exports of the country. In 2014 it is expected that the branch will grow further.

These results bring Bulgaria's textile industry closer again to the strongest periods and the highest levels of export before the global economic crisis.
