DOMO Chemicals and Solvay have signed today an agreement for DOMO to acquire Solvay’s Performance Polyamides Business in Europe. This includes Engineering Plastics operations in France and Poland; High Performance Fibers in France; Polymer and Intermediates operations in France, Spain & Poland. The agreement also involves a joint venture between BASF and DOMO in France for the production of Adipic Acid. The Business comprises Production, Sales, Technical Support, R&D and Innovation services which currently have a combined headcount of approximately 1100 employees.

The French government is looking to ban retailers from throwing away unsold consumer products.

The move, which would include electronics, cosmetics, and clothes, would be introduced to reduce the amount of waste being produced by the country and in turn better protect the environment.

French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe introduced the bill earlier this month.

He stated that every year, 650 million euros worth of new consumer products are either thrown away or destroyed in the country.

France is to pass legislation banning supermarkets and producers from destroying unsold non-food items in a “world first”, according to Edouard Philippe, the prime minister.

France has already enacted a law banning supermarkets from destroying unsold food, and obliging supermarkets to hand it to charity, but the government wishes to extend the ban to clothing, electronics or plastics, and other products.

France and Sweden have submitted a proposal to Echa to ban or restrict over 1,000 skin sensitisers in textiles, leather, furs and skins sold to consumers

France, Sweden propose ban on over 1,000 allergens in textiles.

The joint initiative includes all substances classified as skin sensitisers under the CLP Regulation and 25 substances of the family of disperse dyes with sensitising properties.

Ahead of the proposal, the French Agency for Food, Environment and Occupational Health and Safety (Anses) conducted a study to identify substances present in certain articles. And the Swedish Chemicals Agency (Kemi) carried out an analysis of risk management options under REACH on skin sensitisers in textiles.

Bulgarian export of clothing and textile marked growth in 2013 with exports reaching 1.8 billion euros - the highest level of Bulgarian exports since 2007. A 7 percent growth in export has been marked in comparison to 2012. Out of those 1.8 billion, export of textiles totaled € 328 million or about 18% of the total exports of the country. In 2014 it is expected that the branch will grow further.

These results bring Bulgaria's textile industry closer again to the strongest periods and the highest levels of export before the global economic crisis.
