Improving workforce skill becomes top priority ahead of automation for VN

Globalisation and technology revolution are posing increasingly greater challenges for Vietnam’s economy, as the country’s labour force will grow from 55.5 million on 2016 to 62 million in 2025, said Deputy Minister of MoLISA Đào Hồng Lan. Hence improving workforce skills has become a top priority for Vietnam.

Vietnam will have to address to the changing technologies and skills needs in the labour market, with the changing nature of work in the era of technology, when many low-skilled workers will be at risk of losing jobs due to automation.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in support of handloom, handicraft, textile and khadi industries on Tuesday unveiled new schemes. Also steps would be taken to boost ‘Poompuhar’ for which an Integrated Development and Promotion of Handicrafts scheme would be launched soon.

She said that the six cooperative mills in the State, modernized at Rs.175.23 crore, manufacture threads for the government’s free dhoti and saree scheme and free uniform scheme to school children.

The Pakistan government had allocated Rs. 6 billion for Textile Policy initiatives for 2016-17 while support schemes would also continue during this year which include Sales Tax of five export oriented sectors namely textile, leather, sports goods, surgical goods and carpets had been made part of zero rated tax regime from July 1, 2016.

Further, all the pending sales tax refunds till April 30 whose RPOs have been approved, will be paid.

With the government announcing a special Rs.6,000 crore package and taking elaborate marketing plans to boost exports. Textile Secretary Rashmi Verma speaking on the sidelines of a meeting of industry body Texprocil held in Mumbai said that they are hopeful of achieving $50 billion mark in exports in the current fiscal as compared to $38 billion exports last year.

The Union Cabinet last week approved special package for the sector with an aim to create one crore new jobs in three years and attract investments of $11 billion while eyeing additional $30 billion in exports.

Trade Ministry expert for trade services Arlinda Imbang Jaya said that the total trade between Indonesia and Saudi Arabia amounted to US$8.5 billion in 2015. Indonesian exports to Saudi Arabia amounted to $3.35 billion in 2015, while imports were worth $5.14 billion.

A memorandum of understanding signed between the Korea Trade-Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA) and the Investment and Trade Promotion Centre of HCM City (ITPC) to facilitate the exchange of investment and trade information between the two sides.
