The 66th edition of National Garment Fair organised by the Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) with the aim to generate the advancement of the large-scale domestic Garment Industry across the World began in Mumbai. India's garment exports clocked 15 percent growth at USD17 billion in FY17 now following improved market conditions in US and other markets, the garment exports are expected to register a 15-18 percent growth to touch USD 20 billion during the current fiscal.

The US market, which consists of 30 percent market share is doing reasonably well and they are also looking at good exports potential to South America, European, Middle East and Japanese markets this year, said Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI) president Rahul Mehta.

Clothing Manufacturers Association of India (CMAI), the premier apparel body, in association with Tata Consultancy Services (TCS) has developed software to alert the garment manufacturers about GST (Goods and Services Tax) compliance.

The unique software is being launched today for the betterment of textile manufacturers at a minimal cost. From cotton traders to ginners and fabric manufacturers, anyone found non-compliant of the GST will be identified through this software.

The Government plans to spend Rs.20 crore in apparel manufacturing centre which will be a single storey building set up on 1.50 acres land and generate employment for about 1,200 people per centre. Such modern apparel manufacturing centre would be set in each of the eight north-eastern States – Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, Sikkim and Tripura.

The government to announce the new national textiles policy in July after the cabinet approval aims at creating 35 million new jobs by attracting foreign investment, Textile secretary S K Panda said on Mondy after inaugurating the 61st National Germent Fair in Mumbai.

Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Textiles Santosh Gangwar, who has been working on the long-delayed policy since he assumed office last year, however, did not give an exact time-frame within which the policy could be expected.
