CCI presumes a depression in cotton output

There is an expected slump in cotton output by 5-10 lakh bales likely this year and an expected rise of cotton prices as some farmers from Telangana have demanded an MSP of Rs 5,000 per quintal.

Earlier, during his meeting with farmers, Union Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar had said the minimum support price (MSP) for cotton has been fixed at Rs 3,936-4,100 per quintal, depending on the moisture content.

But his ministry is in constant touch with the Finance Ministry for revising the price upwards.

India fixes target for textile exports at USD 47.5bn for 2015-16

Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar in his written reply to Lok Sabha mentioned that the export of textiles for the current financial year (2015-16) targeting a growth of 14 percent has been fixed at USD 47.5 billion from actual exports of USD 41.6 billion in 2014-15, parliament was told on Thursday.

He also said that the government is encouraging exports through Merchandise Exports from India Scheme (MEIS), which has recently been modified to include the markets of Bangladesh and Sri Lanka.

Minister of State for Textiles (I.C) Shri Santosh Kumar Gangwar, today inaugurated the 55th India International Garment Fair, 2015, India's largest garment show in South Asia, covering apparel and fashion accessories which has attracted 305 buyers from across the globe, of which 202 are from traditional markets and 103 are from non-traditional markets. 2,921 buyers have already registered for the fair. The 55th IIGF is a three day fair which is being held from 13th to 15th July 2015, at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi.

Minister of State for Textiles (Independent Charge), Santosh Kumar Gangwar addressing a two-day National Workshop, held to strengthen Make in India in Textiles announced that government approved 20 new parks during previous seven months under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Park (SITP). The Government would set up 8 to 10 more parks in the 12th Five Year Plan. These parks will be catalytic in realizing Make in India vision of the Hon'ble Prime Minister.

Kyrgyzstan signs MoU with India to strengthen textile cooperation

The government of Kyrgyzstan has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to develop cooperation in the textile sector with India. The MoU was signed by India's Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar and the visiting Kyrgyzstan's Minister of Energy and Industry Kubanychbek Turdubaev in New Delhi.

The two countries have also agreed to set up a Joint Working Group to explore details of cooperation within the scope of the MoU and the steps required to facilitate bilateral trade and investment.

Textiles Minister takes up steps to give a boost to jute sector

Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar after the review meeting held with various stakeholders of the jute sector at Kolkata yesterday, key decision has been taken to strengthen the jute sector. The Ministry for textile has taken decision to make most of the unused assets, such as land, of the three closed mills of NJMC (National Jute Manufactures Corporation Limited) for economic activities. The focus is to generate employment. Activities such as apparel park or textile hub shall be considered.

Textile cluster to be set up in Mysore to soon turn into reality

The cluster for textiles proposed to be set up in Mysore to turn into reality as the land has been identified for the proposed cluster at Srirampura, on the outskirts of the city which falls within the Mysore Parliamentary constituency and with the Union minister of state for textiles Santosh Kumar Gangwar inspecting the proposed site to set up the cluster early next week.

Centre has released Rs 28 crore for the textile mega cluster project in Mysore which is expected to boost investment in the region and create jobs.

The 5th edition of Tex-Trends India 2015 was declared open with the inauguration by Minister of State for Textile, Santosh Kumar Gangwar at Pragati Maidan (ITPO), in New Delhi on Wednesday. Almost all textile-rich States in India have textile parks except Odisha. Considering the potential that the industry has in the State, the Ministry is keen on setting up a textile park here that would help the arts and its artisans, the Union Textile Minister, Santosh Kumar Gangwar said after inaugurating ‘Design Sutra’, a national workshop on promotion of handloom and fashion at National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) in the Capital City.
