Telangana and Odisha plan to replicate some of the successes of the Tirupur cluster of garment units. The officials of both the states have appealed to big garment units in Tirupur such as Dollar, Lux and Rupa to invest in their respective states.

According to sources, officials from Odisha textile handloom industries department recently made a visit to Tirupur to have a first-hand information and the cluster’s successful operation over the years.

Minister of State for Textiles, Santosh Kumar Gangwar after the review meeting held with various stakeholders of the jute sector at Kolkata yesterday, key decision has been taken to strengthen the jute sector. The Ministry for textile has taken decision to make most of the unused assets, such as land, of the three closed mills of NJMC (National Jute Manufactures Corporation Limited) for economic activities. The focus is to generate employment. Activities such as apparel park or textile hub shall be considered.

An Apparel Training and Design Centre (ATDC) will be set up in the city Agra soon. The new centre will contribute in a big way to the growth of the apparel-making industry in Agra and a major boost to the textile industry. The ATDC is expected to start functioning in the city by January next year.

Chief Minister Shahbaz talking to the delegation said that the Punjab government has already gone ahead with the development of Quaid-i-Azam Apparel Park project to gain from the GSP Plus status awarded by EU.

Arvind Limited, producer of composite manufacturer of textiles head-quartered in Ahmedabad, Gujarat has also set its focus to venture into apparel market. Through its subsidiary, Arvind Garment Park Pvt Ltd plans to set up its first apparel park over an area of 300 acres in Gandhinagar along with a garment manufacturing plant within the park as its anchor unit, in a bid to strengthen its own apparel manufacturing.
