New technology adopted for cotton ginning season

Molecular technologies specialist Applied DNA Sciences (ADNAS) has received an order of US$1 million to supply its SigNature T tagging technology for the 2019/20 cotton ginning season which begins in October.

The Company’s SigNature T technology, paired with its genotyping and digital systems, will be utilised to tag, test and track the Pima variety of cotton – sold by the brand PimaCott – over the coming months in San Joaquin Valley, California.

The textile products, including yarn, fibre, fabric, and home textile, imported by the European Union countries from all over the world in 2017 increased by 3%, compared to the previous year, and amounted to EUR 18.3 billion. Over EUR 1 billion worth of textiles were imported from four countries. The share of these four countries in imports constituted 61.3%.

The interest may be focused on the polyester yarn unit as all the business is not of interest to Reliance because it would not add synergies, but one or two divisions may be value accretive to it. But there was no response from Reliance Industries to comment on this.

Pakistan’s exports to the European Union (EU) in the first 11 months (January-November) of 2015 has plunged from $6.96billion to $6.13 billion in the same period last year, a drop of 11.93 percent, indicating that the preferential market access has failed to boost dwindling exports.

The commerce ministry listed two reasons for the decline: the recession in EU and depreciation of the euro against dollar.

Exports of textile garments dropped to $2.289bn from $2.291bn. Home textile exports dipped 8.51pc to $1.461bn from $1.597bn in January-November 2014.
