Origin Africa, both an international trade fair on textile and clothing and an ongoing effort dedicated to improving African Cotton, Textile and Apparel trade which is all set to be held in Madagascar in November. This is the first time for Madagascar to host this international event, said the Executive Director of Madagascar Export Processing Zone Association, Eva Razafimandimby during a press conference held in Madagascar’s capital Antananarivo on Monday.

ORIGIN AFRICA 2015 is both an event and an on-going effort dedicated to improving African Cotton, Textile and Apparel trade. The event is profiled to raise the awareness of Africa as a place to do business, sourcing destination, changing perceptions, and to make the value chain in the continent more visible as a source of supply of cotton, textile and apparel products for the domestic, regional and international buyers.

The Zambian women weavers began the week by participating in Origin Africa, the largest cotton, textile and apparel event on the continent, which aims to raise awareness of Africa as a business and sourcing destination in the sector. It is organized by the African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF).

Seven women weavers of Zambia participated in back-to-back events in Nairobi, Kenya, showcasing their products, learning new production and business techniques, and meeting with potential customers and investors .

African Cotton and Textile Industries Federation (ACTIF) has planned to make Kenya where cotton is mainly grown by small scale farmers into a number one sourcing destination for textile and apparels for which they has announced a farm-to-fashion value chain campaign called Origin Africa a two day expo that will try to put up perception of Africa as a place to do business.
