Textile Ministry targeting to double textile production by 2025

With the domestic production of textiles at $110 billion and exports and trade at $40 billion, the country's production of textiles at present is worth $150 billion. The Textile Ministry is targeting to double textile production and trade to $300 billion by 2025, said Textile Commissioner Kavita Gupta on Friday.

At the mega event ‘Textile in Karnataka’ on Monday, the ministry of textile and the textile commissioner’s office launched a study to promote growth of man-made fibre (MMF) textile in India and to identify the gaps and suggest measures.

According to the Synthetic and Rayon Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), the study on the MMF sector is aimed at demystifying the factors responsible for the stagnation of the MMF textile segment in India. The study will give a road map to identify gaps and suggest measures.

The man-made fibres and yarns were slotted under 18 percent GST rate while the fabrics were slotted under 5 per GST slab with a condition of no refund ITC at fabric stage. This had created a huge accumulation of nonrefundable ITC with the weavers and blockage of working capital.

Textiles India 2017 is recognized as a "must visit" international event for key stakeholders globally comprising international buying houses, importers, fashion houses, luxury and retail brands and reputed fashion designers said Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) chairman Narain Agarwal.

The event will host pavilions of focus countries such as the UK, the USA, Germany, Japan, China, South Korea, Kazakhstan, Turkey and Australia. The Ministry of Textiles has planned road shows in many of these countries as well as in Russia and UAE to promote the event.

Afghanistan is a fast emerging market of textiles and currently Indian exporters have negligible direct trade of textiles with Afghanistan which they sell to this market through third countries. Synthetic and Rayon Textile Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC), apex body of Indian textile industry and Southern Gujarat Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SGCCI) have jointly signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with a delegation from Afghanistan for boosting direct export of polyester fabrics and made-ups from India, especially from MMF hub in Surat to Afghanistan.

In the wake of the Synthetic and Rayon Textile Industry gaining momentum in India, the The Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) of India in association with High Commission of India, Dhaka is organizing the fair tilted Intexpo Bangladesh 2016 at Pan Pacific Sonargaon hotel.

Government of India and the Synthetic and Rayon Textiles Export Promotion Council (SRTEPC) for the first time have zeroed in on Surat's textile industry to promote its fabrics as an emerging brand. A two-day long buyer-seller meet will be organized under the 'Source India' programme from August 13 in the Diamond city Surat which is also the country’s largest man-made fabric (MMF) industry.

Over 100 fabric importers and garment manufacturers from across West Asia, Africa and South America will come down to the Diamond City for direct sourcing of fabrics manufactured in Surat.

Vietnam International Fashion Week 2016 at the fashion show to honour beauty of the two traditional costumes of Vietnam and India, Ao dai and Saree to be held at Ao Dai Museum in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9 from 1st April.

The two costumes are extremely unique because they have their own identity. The saree, for example, has been in existence for 3,000-5,000 years and has never gone out of fashion.

Similarly ao dai, looks extremely ethnic and at the same time have a very modern look depending on how you wrap it.
