Textile yarn machinery shipment to China plunged whilst in Vietnam soar

Shipments of yarn machinery to the textile industry in China plunged in 2013 and at the same time, shipments to the industry in Vietnam soared. These trends reflected an apparent shift in the sourcing of textiles and clothing from China to other countries in Asia, and Vietnam in particular, according to a new report from the global business information company Textiles Intelligence – World markets for textile machinery: part 1— yarn manufacture.

With the new cotton season (Oct-Sept) beginning, cotton exports in the country have started to pick up but it is unlikely to meet the estimates of 9 million bales put forward by the Cotton Advisory Board for the 2014-15 cotton season.

According to Prerana Desai, head of research with Edelweiss Commodities they see exports almost 20% lower than what has been estimated by CAB as China, a big buyer is facing slow down and there local Government is pushing for use of higher local material. However, two third of India's cotton exports still directly destined to China.

Active buying by mills and exporters was witnessed on the Pakistan cotton market as prices moved warily on Tuesday. The official spot rate remained unchanged at Rs 5,200, dealers said. In the ready session, around, 20,000 bales of cotton changed hands between Rs 5200 and Rs 5300. In Sindh, rates were lower by Rs 100 to Rs 2000 and Rs 2025, while in Punjab prices were at Rs 2300 and Rs 2600.

BTK is not the only Russian company, which plans to establish large-scale production of technical textiles. Several days ago the National Investment and Finance Corporation (NIFC), one of Russia’s largest investment corporations also announced the establishment of the large cluster for the production of textile and technical textile products in the Russian Ryazan region.

China is reluctant to increase the import quota of wool and wool tops since 2006 even after it became the world's largest wool processor and consumer in recent years. The country relies on imports for more than 75% of its wool supply for domestic textile companies.

The Chinese Ministry of Commerce has taken the decision to keep next year's import quota of wool and wool tops unchanged from 2014. It will allow a maximum of 287,000 tons of wool to be imported in 2015.

China likely to struggle to meet demand for cotton with plunge in cotton yield

The cotton growing area in China in the 12 months is expected to decline to 63.40 million mu (about 4.23 million hectares), down 9.4 percent from the previous year, and the cotton yield is also forecast to plunge by half a million tonnes to 6.5 million tonnes, according to Lian Weiliang, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission.

While, cotton demand in China is expected to exceed its domestic supply by two million tonnes in the year from September 2014 to August 2015, as per official data showed on Thursday.

India likely to harvest 40 million cotton bales this year once harvesting begins next month, which will be 8% higher than a year earlier and the highest harvest on record.

Lower-than-normal monsoon rains early in the June-through-September rainy season convinced many farmers to switch to planting cotton, which needs less water to grow. But the rains returned late in the season so now India is likely to have a bumper crop.
