The Indian Cotton Federation (ICF) organises it's fourth All India bi yearly conference on cotton

The conference would focus on commercial issues and participants and speakers were from other countries and different parts of India. The federation would submit its suggestions to the State and Central Governments to improve cotton yield and double farmer’s income, based on the deliberations Agronomy research was one area that India needed to focus on.

With the growing area of cotton in China this year depleting by 2.9 percent in 2014 has resulted fall in cotton yield. The cotton yield has dropped by 2.2 percent year on year to 6.16 million tonnes, as per National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Nationwide, cotton land has declined 2.9 percent in 2014 from the previous year to 63.29 million mu, about 4.2 million hectares.

India records drop in November cotton output at 40.2 million bales

India’s cotton yield has recorded a drop in output at 40.2 million bales (170 kgs each in 1 bale) in November during 2014-15, while during the same period last year, total cotton crop stood at 40.7 million bales according the Cotton Association of India (CAI).

The projected balance sheet drawn for the year 2014-15 estimates total cotton supply at 47.39 million bales while domestic consumption is estimated at 30.60 million bales thus leaving an available surplus of 16.79 million bales, said CAI.

China likely to struggle to meet demand for cotton with plunge in cotton yield

The cotton growing area in China in the 12 months is expected to decline to 63.40 million mu (about 4.23 million hectares), down 9.4 percent from the previous year, and the cotton yield is also forecast to plunge by half a million tonnes to 6.5 million tonnes, according to Lian Weiliang, deputy head of the National Development and Reform Commission.

While, cotton demand in China is expected to exceed its domestic supply by two million tonnes in the year from September 2014 to August 2015, as per official data showed on Thursday.

Poor Rainfall May Affect Cotton Yields This Year

The cotton plantation in most of the cotton yielding areas in Lahore is likely to be impacted by low temperature in February and March and subsequent poor rainfall. This has sparked fear of lesser production among the cotton stakeholders.
