The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) Chairman Shri Ujwal Lahoti welcoming the budget said that it is pragmatic, growth oriented and all inclusive. Shri Lahoti expressed hope that the increased funds allocated for the textile sector will cover fabrics also under the ROSL scheme.

The Government had approved a comprehensive textile sector package of Rs. 6000 crore in 2016 to boost the apparel and made-up segments. The Budget has provided an outlay of Rs. 7148 crore for the textile sector in 2018-19.

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL) welcoming the Budget urged the government to reinstate some of the incentives relating to interest subvention for merchant exporters and cotton yarn and MEIS benefit for cotton yarns.

Vietnam International Fashion Week 2016 at the fashion show to honour beauty of the two traditional costumes of Vietnam and India, Ao dai and Saree to be held at Ao Dai Museum in Ho Chi Minh City’s District 9 from 1st April.

The two costumes are extremely unique because they have their own identity. The saree, for example, has been in existence for 3,000-5,000 years and has never gone out of fashion.

Similarly ao dai, looks extremely ethnic and at the same time have a very modern look depending on how you wrap it.

CCI put off its plans to float global tender for cotton sale

The Cotton Corporation of India (CCI) has taken decision to release more cotton into the domestic market since domestic market is picking up and not to go ahead with its plans to float global tender for cotton sales as it is likely to result in panic in the domestic market and could send out a wrong message, BK Mishra CMD, CCI informed.

CCI has been placing 50,000 bales on a daily basis for the past 10 days on board for e-auction and around 80-90% of this has been picked up by mills.

Organic certification made mandatory for finished textile products

Raw cotton export already required certification under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP). It is now required of any finished textile product exported as an organic one such as yarn, fabrics, made-ups and garments as the government has made it mandatory.

R K Dalmia, Chairman, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council said that national standard for organic cotton is a welcome move but the manner in which it is being implemented will create havoc in the organic textile industry and lead to loss of export business.

India likely to harvest 40mn cotton bales, 8 pc higher this year as farmers misread weather

India likely to harvest 40 million cotton bales this year once harvesting begins next month, which will be 8% higher than a year earlier and the highest harvest on record.

Lower-than-normal monsoon rains early in the June-through-September rainy season convinced many farmers to switch to planting cotton, which needs less water to grow. But the rains returned late in the season so now India is likely to have a bumper crop.
