Toray moves to produce plant-based polyester yarn

Toray, Osaka-based, an integrated chemical industry group developing its business in 25 countries and regions world wide, as part of its sustainable textiles drive this year it will move away from making 100 percent petroleum-derived polyester fibre and instead produce polyester made from ‘plant-based’ bio-polymer chip.

Toray has developed a lab-scale 100 percent bio-based polyester yarn, which will eventually be marketed under its ‘Ecodear’ brand when it completes commercialisation.

MANAMA: Investcorp, a Bahrain-based an alternative investment manager to acquire SPGPrints Group for an enterprise value of 240 million euros ($327m). SPGPrints established in 1947 is a leading global provider of integrated solutions for rotary screen and digital printing for textiles and graphic applications.
 
This will be Investcorp's fifth successful acquisition in 12 months.
 

KOTRA comes up with new concept of fashion fund

The union budget presented by the Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Parliament on Thursday wherein it was announced setting up of a mega-cluster in Surat for textiles has been welcomed by the Gujarat textile industry.
 
Of the six textile mega-clusters proposed to set up, one of it will be in Surat. Surat textile industry, which involves spinning, weaving, processing, garmenting and exports, employ around 1.5 lakh people directly. Market estimates put the industry turnover in the range of Rs. 40,000 crore –Rs 50,000 crore annually.

The Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) will not be transformed into a holding company. The proposal given by finance ministry for turning the BJMC into a holding company has been called off.
 
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam offered the clarification, quashing a finance ministry proposal, at the session dedicated to the textiles and jute ministry at of DCs’ (deputy commissioner) conference in Dhaka.
