The National Jute Board (NJB), Bihar government’s rural works department and the Indian Jute Mills Association (IJMA) has endorsed the use of geo-textile in Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY).

A three-day jute fair organised by Jute Diversification Promotion Center (JDPC) in collaboration of the district administration for reviving the golden fibre’s past glory ended on upbeat note at Barisal Ashwini Kumar Hall yesterday night.
The fair which housed 17 stalls was inaugurated by the acting divisional commissioner Md Ibrahim on Thursday.
JDPC Monitoring and Extension Executive Mozahidul Islam said that they had succeeded in holding the fair because it had created huge interest among the public. Moreover, diversified jute products were sold up to the mark.
President Pranab Mukherjee at the inauguration of the international conference on natural fibres, marking the end of the platinum jubilee celebrations of the National Institute of Research on Jute and Allied Fibre Technology (NIR-JAFT), Mukherjee said that a host of reasons has led to the disquieting trends in the jute industry and called for collaborative effort by all stakeholders to develop the jute sector.
With the cultivation of jute on 1, 94,880 hectares of land, it seems that jute farmers of Barisal would get good returns of their agricultural product. The farmers have approached the government for co-operation to check the flow of low quality seeds during the sowing season and expansion of national and international market.
The Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) will not be transformed into a holding company. The proposal given by finance ministry for turning the BJMC into a holding company has been called off.
State Minister for Textiles and Jute Mirza Azam offered the clarification, quashing a finance ministry proposal, at the session dedicated to the textiles and jute ministry at of DCs’ (deputy commissioner) conference in Dhaka.
