Texprocil, a government constituted body for export promotion of cotton textiles submits to Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in a pre-budget memorandum lists measures which can boost exports and provide employment to over two lakh people in India especially women.

Dubai will stage its debut International Textile Fair (ITF) which is expected to give further boost to the booming UAE textile industry which was valued at 13.2 billion (AED 48.5 billion) in 2011, and is growing at 9.9 percent annually.
 
The ITF will the first dedicated international textile show in the Gulf region bringing together textile manufacturers and designers from all over the world under one platform.
 

Rising yarn prices suppress weavers from procuring it

Surat the country's biggest man-made fabric (MMF) sector has the highest consumption of yarn material as the entire MMF industry is depended on it for weaving polyester fabrics but the rising yarn prices are holding back weavers from purchased it.
 
The powerloom weavers in Surat have stopped the purchase of yarn material following the steep increase in the prices by the yarn spinners by almost 20-25 percent in the last few days following the rise in the crude oil price due to Iraq crisis.

Pakistan garment sector that exports more than 80 per cent of their merchandise, are facing liquidity crunch due to its huge capital stuck-up by the FBR. Although the FBR’s software system of RCPS is very excellent which completes refund process system within one month but finance ministry’s undue interference causes blockage of refund claims to the exporters, as presently more than 80 per cent textile exporters refund of over Rs10 billion is stuck by the FBR.
 

Cotton yield likely to drop by 50pc due to lack of rainfall in state

Nearly 15 lakh hectares of cotton plantation in Maharashtra have dried up and gone to waste. Farmers had sowed seeds in June, like every year, but the delay in the onset of monsoon the seeds have not germinated and claim the seeds are now completely useless. The farmers have urged for government’s intervention and help them re-sow crops.
 
In Maharashtra, cotton farming is carried out on 44 lakh hectares of land, but this year cotton was sown on only 20 lakh hectares. Even in this, most of the planted seeds haven’t germinated because due to no rainfall.

Intertek to fast track process of product certification in Bangladesh

Intertek, the world's biggest tester of consumer goods with the opening of its modern testing laboratory in Dhaka this June has made the task of obtaining product certification for exporters quicker, cheaper and simpler.
 
The laboratory is set up at a cost of Tk 42 crore on more than one lakh square feet of land that will provide one-stop service to a total of 17 industries including textile and garment, footwear, agro-processed foods, electrical goods and chemicals.
 

Two textile parks under SITP to be set up in Odisha

The state government has recently received a letter from the Union Ministry of Textiles seeking proposals for development of Textile Parks which the state was aiming to set up at least two textile parks under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) of Union government during the 12th Five Year Plan. Under this scheme, the government provides grant or equity limited to 40 percent of the project cost, subject to a ceiling of Rs 40 cr.

The state-owned jute mills in Khulna-Jessore industrial belt has registered a sharp fall in export of jute goods by 38.65 percent in the just concluded fiscal year compared to its preceding fiscal due to lack of demand in global market, over the political instability in major importing countries.
 
According to Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), about 31,647-tonne jute goods was exported from nine state-run jute mills of the region till the first week of June in the fiscal 2013-14, against the export of 81,881-tonne in the fiscal 2012-13.
