Nearly 15 lakh hectares of cotton plantation in Maharashtra have dried up and gone to waste. Farmers had sowed seeds in June, like every year, but the delay in the onset of monsoon the seeds have not germinated and claim the seeds are now completely useless. The farmers have urged for government’s intervention and help them re-sow crops.

Intertek, the world's biggest tester of consumer goods with the opening of its modern testing laboratory in Dhaka this June has made the task of obtaining product certification for exporters quicker, cheaper and simpler.

The state government has recently received a letter from the Union Ministry of Textiles seeking proposals for development of Textile Parks which the state was aiming to set up at least two textile parks under the Scheme for Integrated Textile Parks (SITP) of Union government during the 12th Five Year Plan. The state-owned jute mills in Khulna-Jessore industrial belt has registered a sharp fall in export of jute goods by 38.65 percent in the just concluded fiscal year compared to its preceding fiscal due to lack of demand in global market, over the political instability in major importing countries.
According to Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC), about 31,647-tonne jute goods was exported from nine state-run jute mills of the region till the first week of June in the fiscal 2013-14, against the export of 81,881-tonne in the fiscal 2012-13.
