VITAS appeals to remove tariffs on polyester fibre

The Vietnam Textile and Apparel Association (VITAS) aiming to remove difficulties for textile and garment enterprises, following feedback and recommendations of many domestic enterprises that they are finding it tough to sustain due to high cost of importing raw material, has appealed to the ministries of finance and industry and trade not to increase import tariffs on polyester fibre from zero to 2 percent.

The US Department of Commerce (DOC) earlier, on June 20, based on petitions filed by DAK Americas LLC, Nan Ya Plastics Corporation and Augira Polymers had officially initiated the investigation on polyester fibre imported from Việtnam, China, India, the Republic of Korea and Taiwan.

DOC announced the termination of the anti-dumping investigation on polyester fibre imported from Việtnam.

Boretech Group, a PET (polyethylene terephthalate) recycling company headquartered in Taiwan to commission its first PET recycling facility in Stockton, California in the United States by end of September 2014.
 
According to Paul Ou, a spokesman for the company, the construction is nearly completed and expects to receive its official permit from the city by early September, with operations beginning shortly thereafter.
 

Toray moves to produce plant-based polyester yarn

Toray, Osaka-based, an integrated chemical industry group developing its business in 25 countries and regions world wide, as part of its sustainable textiles drive this year it will move away from making 100 percent petroleum-derived polyester fibre and instead produce polyester made from ‘plant-based’ bio-polymer chip.

Toray has developed a lab-scale 100 percent bio-based polyester yarn, which will eventually be marketed under its ‘Ecodear’ brand when it completes commercialisation.
