Greek enterprises from the textile industry facing very serious problem of high energy cost which is hitting their competitiveness to other global market. For which a meeting was held between the presidency of the Association of Greek Textile Industries (SEVK) and Environment & Energy Minister George Stathakis on Tuesday.

The Association during the meeting, presented a fully-detailed memorandum with the industry’s positions and recommendations over a series of measures needed to rescue textile industries and to become a growth tool for the economy once again.

Uzbekistan’s cotton fiber processing volume has reached 40 percent in 2016, while in 1991 it was seven percent only, according to the Ministry of economy of Uzbekistan. By 2020 all available capacities of cotton fiber are to be processed inside Uzbekistan.

The President’s decree of 21 December 2016 “on measures for further development of the textile, garment and knitwear industry in 2017-2019”, has open even more possibilities for improvement of the sector.

The textile industry though did not see any major announcement in the Budget but higher fund allocation for labour skilling and end-to-end logistics solutions, including rail and coastal shipping last-mile connectivity, will help the country’s textile industry to achieve the $350-billion target in next few years as set by the union government.

However, continuing with the existing tax structure, including the service tax and optional Cenvat route extended for textile industry till the GST is implemented, has been considered as a big boost for the sector.

Madhya Pradesh has emerged as a hub of the textile industry of the country in the last one decade due to the industrial friendly policy of the state government. Minister for Commerce,Industry, Employment, Mineral Resources and Overseas Indians Rajendra Shukla addressing the 14th international and 72nd All-India Textile Conference held in Bhopal said that a special policy is being brought soon to encourage garment industry in the state.

More than 300 representative of textile industry are taking part in the conference.
