At cotton market as mills rush to secure bales to meet their requirement ginners has raised asking prices in response to high demand from spinners. There is a moved upwards and prices have surged to Rs6,000/maund, said brokers.

The Karachi Cotton Association rose the benchmark spot rate by Rs75 to Rs5,625/maund.

Reeling from supply problems, many spinners rushed to the market and started panic buying to refill their depleting stocks. Volumes were high with traders bought 11,424 cotton bales at the ready counter.

Three textile factories to come up in Kutaisi and Poti, West Georgia by the end of the year, the factories will import raw material from Turkey to produces clothes which will be exported to Europe, according to the Head of the International Investors Association (IIA), Osman Chalishkan.

The factory to be built in Poti, Georgia’s port city on the Black Sea coast, will involve investment to the tune of USD 3 million and the construction of which will be completed before the parliamentary elections in Georgia on October 8th, 2016. The factory will employ 3,000 people.

MSP of raw jute up by 18.5% to Rs 3,200/qtl for 2016-17

In order to boost raw jute production, the government has hiked the minimum support price (MSP) of raw jute by 18.5% to Rs 3,200 per quintal for 2016-17. A decision in this regard was taken in the meeting of the Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in New Delhi.

The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs approved the Agriculture Ministry's proposal on raising the MSP of raw jute to Rs 3,200 per quintal for 2016-17 from Rs 2,700 per quintal in the previous year.

Pak sets cotton output target for next season at 14.101mn bales

Pakistan cotton production which is on the downward trend from 33.62 percent to 9.687 million bales during this season to February 15 owing to pest attacks and rainfall damaging the crop. The government aimed at 15.49 million cotton bales in the beginning of the current season. But for the next season, Pakistan government has set the cotton production target at 14.101 million bales, on Tuesday.

The federal committee on cotton (FCC) fixed the cotton production target from 3.009 million hectares across the country for the fiscal year of 2016/17.
