The PTA Users Association, which represents manufacturers of polyester chips, polyester films and polyester filament yarn, has appealed to the Union Government to withdraw its recommendation for imposition of the duty on PTA imports.

Pakistan sees escalation in textile and clothing exports

Pakistan textile and clothing products exports witnessed escalation by 5.96 per cent in July-May 2014 from a year ago, mainly owing to a trivial increase in export of value-added products. But only nine textile products witnessed positive export growth among all textile and clothing categories.

In May, exports of textile and clothing saw a marginal growth of 1.19percent over the corresponding period of last year.

SISPA pushing for quality cotton at reasonable prices for small spinners

With various problems being faced by small spinners, President, K Thirunavukkarasu of South India Spinners Association (SISPA) has urged Textile Commissioner Kiran Sony Gupta to make sure that quality raw material, cotton is made available at reasonable price level without much instability.

SISPA wants the textile ministry to maintain a stock to use ratio of 50 lakh bales of cotton stock till the end of the cotton arrival season to meet the needs of the spinning sector.

Jute mill owners concerned over decision on reopening mill

After the meeting held by parliamentary secretary (labour) Tapan Dasgupta, Victoria mill president R.K. Singh “reluctantly” agreed to reopen the factory in Chandernagore, which was closed down since June 17 following alleged despoilment by the labourers on the premises.

Ten employees of Victoria Jute Mill were suspended after they allegedly caused damage to equipment on the premises. But, the workers claimed that a colleague on night duty had fallen ill and were yet asked to continue working.

Pakistan textile industry touches $10.385b in nine months of this FY

Cotton is an important source of raw material to the textile industry which has helped the textile industry to achieve $ 10.385 billion during the period of first nine months of this fiscal year as foreign exchange to national exchequer. The cotton shares 1.4 percent in GDP and 6.7 percent in agriculture value addition, which was cultivated on an area of 28,06,000 hectares, 2.5 percent less than last year’s area of 28,79,000 hectares. The production stood at 12.8 million bales during the period against the target of 14.1 million bales set, according to the Ministry of Textile.

Chinese Vice President, Li Yuanchao during his last week’s visit to Tanzania assured there will be increased investment by his countrymen should the textile industry in Tanzania continued improved performance. Vice President, Li Yuanchao, toured the Chinese owned Tanzania Tooku Garments Co. Ltd that was established within one of the Export Processing Zones in Dar es Salaam in 2011 specializing in the research, development and production of garments.

Pakistan textile industry faces setback over import of specialized manmade fibre

All-Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma) has drawn the attention of the Federal Minister for Textile Industry Abbas Khan Afraidi towards the duty of five percent still imposed on imports of specialized manmade fibre, such as viscose, acrylic, bamboo, lycra and slub due to which the industry is facing problems. Aptma Chairman Mohammad Yasin Siddik, in a letter to the minister, has stated that Pakistan has no plants for producing specialised manmade fibre.
