US garment and textile firms seek their own investment opportunities in VN

The Southeast Asian country’s garment-textile and footwear exports to the US are likely to increase in the coming time, even without TPP, according to Nate Herman, Senior Vice President of the American Apparel & Footwear Association (AAFA) Supply Chain as the US garment-textile and footwear businesses are seeking their own investment opportunities in Vietnam after the US withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) earlier this year.

Pakistan value-added textile exports has witnessed growth by 10pc touching $2.3bn in the first quarter (July-September) of this fiscal year compared with $2.1bn a year ago. While on the other hand, spinning-based exports (non-value added) continue to decline by 15pc to $1.2bn from $1.4bn which were offset by higher exports of valued-added segment (bedwear, knitwear and readymade garments) as per the latest data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

Pakistan sees escalation in textile and clothing exports

Pakistan textile and clothing products exports witnessed escalation by 5.96 per cent in July-May 2014 from a year ago, mainly owing to a trivial increase in export of value-added products. But only nine textile products witnessed positive export growth among all textile and clothing categories.

In May, exports of textile and clothing saw a marginal growth of 1.19percent over the corresponding period of last year.
