SISPA urge govt to keep 50 lakh cotton bales as buffer to avoid shortage

South Indian Spinners Association (SISPA) at its 25th Annual General Body Meeting urge government to bring out a comprehensive cotton and synthetic fibre policy to establish secure policy measures that would benefit cotton farmers and enable the spinning industry to grow consistently, thus generating millions of jobs and hence provide additional revenue to the exchequer.

SISPA said that the GST Bill would benefit the entire textile chain and requested the Centre to direct departments concerned to keep 50 lakh cotton bales as buffer stock to avoid shortage.

South India Spinners Association (SISPA) has appealed to the Tamil Nadu government to reduce VAT on cotton, cotton yarn and synthetic yarn from 5 percent to 2 percent, abolish the one percent cess on sale of cotton and cotton waste and facilitate marine discharge by establishing processing centres in costal areas for cost effective processing of yarn, fabrics and finishing goods, to make the state's spinning industry viable, when sold within or in other states.

The South India Spinners Association (SISPA)stating that the cotton production in the state is not sufficient to meet the needs of mills are force to source it from other states have urged the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa to reduce VAT on cotton, cotton yarn and man-made yarn from the present five percent to two percent.

The Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA), Confederation of Indian Textile Industry (CITI), Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (TEXPROCIL), Indian Cotton Federation (ICF), South India Spinners Association (SISPA) and other stake holders has submitted a joint memorandum to Nirmala Sitharaman, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Commerce & Industry urging for a cut in duties to revive the industry.

With various problems being faced by small spinners, President, K Thirunavukkarasu of South India Spinners Association (SISPA) has urged Textile Commissioner Kiran Sony Gupta to make sure that quality raw material, cotton is made available at reasonable price level without much instability.

SISPA wants the textile ministry to maintain a stock to use ratio of 50 lakh bales of cotton stock till the end of the cotton arrival season to meet the needs of the spinning sector.
