Tunisian women in textile sector has been allocated funds for training

Two million dinars has been allocated to train about 2,000 women in the textile sector, by virtue of an agreement between the Ministry of Tourism and Handicraft, and the Ministry of Women, Family and Children, said Director-General of the Textile and Carpet Technical Centre Taoufik Mediouni.

A mega trade expo in Colombo, the largest ever of its kind was organized by Pakistan outside the country to strengthen economic and trade ties between the two countries. Sri Lanka and Pakistan on Friday inaugurated the trade expo.

The trade expo was participation of around 156 companies. The expo features leading Pakistani companies and manufacturers of traditional textiles, textile and clothing, designer wear, handicraft, carpet, engineering products, auto parts, agro products, pharmaceuticals, cutlery, furniture, carpets, marble and services.

Chief Minister J Jayalalithaa in support of handloom, handicraft, textile and khadi industries on Tuesday unveiled new schemes. Also steps would be taken to boost ‘Poompuhar’ for which an Integrated Development and Promotion of Handicrafts scheme would be launched soon.

She said that the six cooperative mills in the State, modernized at Rs.175.23 crore, manufacture threads for the government’s free dhoti and saree scheme and free uniform scheme to school children.

India’s textile exports stood at 41.4 billion, shortfall of 3.6bn from the target set of 45 billion for 2014-15. There was a small increase in the overseas sales of handicrafts (17 percent), carpets (15 percent), readymade garments (12 percent), silk (13 percent), and wool and woolen textiles (18 percent), said an official statement.

For the current fiscal, Textiles Ministry has set an exports target of USD 47.5 billion, Textiles Secretary S K Panda said while addressing a press conference.

The Annual Conference of State Textiles Ministers was held on Wednesday at Scope Complex, Lodhi Road where Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Textiles Santosh Gangwar discussed the provisions of the proposed New Textile Policy such as introducing flexible labour laws and setting up integrated textile parks with States.
