Sutlej Textiles and Industries (STIL), one of India's leading textile producers with a value-chain extending from yarns to fabrics to home textile has announced that the company has taken up commercial production of its expansion project of 31,104 spindles to manufacture value added cotton melange and cotton blended dyed yarn at its units, Chenab Textile Mills, Kathua.

The Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC) to celebrate the symbols of distinct culture and heritage of India organised a 13 days 'Cottage Crafts Mela' in Delhi on Monday. The exhibition is sponsored by the Office of Development Commissioner (Handicrafts), Ministry of textiles.

The exhibition was inaugurated by Samir Kumar Biswas, IAS, Development Commissioner (Handicrafts). Pramod Nagpal, Chief General Manager of the Central Cottage Industries Corporation of India Ltd (CCIC), was also present on the occasion.

Filatex India Ltd, New Delhi-based polyester filament yarns producer has part of its expansion plan intends to invest Rs200-250 crore to add a production line to manufacture downstream value-added products at its Dahej site in Gujarat. It expects the new production line to enhance its profitability.

Pakistan local spinning industry concern over the rising import of finer counts yarn (above 30 counts) at cheaper rates from India at the time when they are already facing energy and gas outages leading to high cost of doing business.

According to Cotton analyst Naseem Usman, TCP’s intervention help cotton growers get better price but it is encouraging spinning industry to go for imported cheap cotton from across the border.

The Ethiopian government sells all of its shares in the Saygin Dima Textile Factory S.C. to its Turkish private sector partner company Saygin. The Turkish company will pay 563 million Br over five years for 90pc of the value of the government's share.

The Privatization & Public Enterprises Supervising Agency (PPESA), established the textile factory in partnership with Turkish investors in 2009, with a capital of 78.5 million dollars. Originally, the government owned 60pc of the company, while Saygin, a Turkish company, owned the remaining 40pc.

Pakistan exporters disappointed with the decision of the Economic Coordination Committee to delay the approval of the second five-year Pakistan textile policy 2014-19 for another couple of weeks, as they were eagerly awaiting cash incentives for their future exports and investments.

The textile policy was originally due in September. The sooner the policy is finalised, the better for the industry and textile exports, as the Heimtextil fair [in Germany] is fast approaching.
