Global textile retailers have found alternatives to Asia as a production hub as they saw some bad event happening in Asia’s textile industry in the year 2014 like the soaring labour wages in China, violent workers’ protests in Cambodia and collapsing factories in Bangladesh. These events points at the fact that the entire Asia textile industry seems to be in transition and the transition lies in a shift to a more value-adding industry.

Pakistan cotton market saw higher demand for better grades while lint trading remained range bound. Buyers made cautious deals for all grades during trading session in all stations of Sindh and Punjab. But the majority of leading buyers and sellers remained on sidelines.

According to fibre analyst Shakeel Ahmad, leading buyers were still eyeing on fine grades, while mills made deals for fine grades on competitive price.

Hyosung plans capacity expansion of spandex production

Hyosung Corp.,South Korean textile and industrial materials maker plans to expand production of spandex yarns at its China facility in Guangdong Province by 14.3 percent to 80,000 tons per year, according to company officials.

With the expansion, the firm's total production of the elastic synthetic fiber will reach 190,000 tons and will help Hyosung and its spandex brand Creora snap up more than 30 percent of the global market share.

Spandex is a highly elastic textile used in various types of garments such as leggings, sports apparels and belts.

Williams’ ethylene plant at Geismar to start commercial production in January

Williams Partners L.P. has announced commissioning efforts at Geismar plant is near completion and now expects ethylene production for sale to begin in January.

The commissioning effort has been especially challenging after the uncharacteristically hard shutdown at the time of the incident and as a result of being out of commission for more than a year, said John Dearborn, Senior Vice President of NGL & Petchem Services.

Turkey’s exports increased from $36.1 billion in 2002 to nearly $158 billion in 2014 and a record high in annual exports revenue after "political and financial stability” was achieved in the country, according the Turkish Exporters’ Assembly.

The textile sector's annual exports were up 8 percent, accounting for $18.7 billion. The chemicals sector came in third after its exports grew by only 2.3 percent to $17.8 billion. However, the driving force of exports was the automotive sector, jewelry sector and the Turkish defense and aviation sectors.
