The government must take steps necessary to make the Indian textile sector competitive, besides being dedicated on the tariff front. Like China, India has all required resources technology, skilled labourers, raw materials. It lacks is the political will to rectify policy anomalies. Twisted labour laws do not favour the creation of massive textile manufacturing units that could compete with the Chinese facilities in the economy of scale.

During the 2nd Joint Economic Commission (JEC) dialog to be held on April 27 to 28 in Bern, Switzerland which will focus on implementing previous commitments and agreements. This year at JEC, the Philippines and Switzerland intend to pursue more solid trade and economic ties.

In 2014, Switzerland was the Philippines’ 23rd largest trading partner – out of 222 – and 22nd export market (out of 217), and 26th import supplier (out of 182).

Commerce Minister Khurram Dastagir after his separate meetings with the All Pakistan Textile Mills Association (Aptma and carpet exporters on Monday said that the government after two years of consolidation was now in a position to facilitate the exporting sectors through incentives, market access and a viable long-term policy.
