Egypt’s ready-made garment exports rise to 802 million dollars

Egypt’s exports of ready-made garments grew by 4.4% year-on-year to $802 million during the first half of 2019 from $768 million, the Middle East News Agency (MENA) reported.

As for June, ready-made garments exported by the North African nation increased by 11% to $122 million from $110 million in the same month a year earlier, according to a report released by the Readymade Garments Export Council of Egypt.

The US topped countries importing ready-made garments from Egypt with a value of $450 million in H1-19, rising by 19% year-on-year from $378 million.

Textile upcycling system launched by Novetex

Novetex Textiles has opened The Billie System, its new Tai Po textile mill, the first in Hong Kong in over half a century. A key component of this mill is a waterless system which upcycles textile waste.

The system is almost entirely automated, and able to process up to three tonnes of recycled fibre per day, which according to Novetex can be further blended with virgin material to produce yarn for various products and garments.

Inditex plans their environmental strategy

At its AGM today in Spain, Inditex says that by 2025, 100 per cent of the cotton, linen and polyester used by its eight clothing brands will be made from either organic, ‘sustainable’ or recycled fibres.

It also revealed that its ‘Join Life’ labelled garments will account for 25 per cent of the total number of garments that it sells by the same date.

Textile, garment and footwear products made in Việt Nam will not enjoy immediate tariff cuts after the EU-Việt Nam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) comes into effect, according to a report from Bảo Việt Securities Joint Stock Company (BVSC).

After the EVFTA comes into effect, Most Favoured Nation (MFN) tariffs will automatically replace the Generalised System of Preferences (GSP) rates which the EU has applied for developing and underdeveloped countries.

China's domestic garment sales increases

China's garment industry saw an increase in domestic sales in the first five months this year despite slower expansion in the industry.

From January to May, retail sales of garment enterprises above a designated size amounted to 397.4 billion yuan (about 57.71 billion U.S. dollars), up 2.3 percent year on year, according to the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

Iran boosting garments output, exports

In an interview by Tasnim news agency, Abolqasem Shirazi also announced about exports of garments to Afghanistan, Iraq, Russia and Yemen.

Increasing non-oil exports to the neighboring countries is one of the major plans that Iranian government is pursuing in the current year.

Iran shares border with fifteen countries, namely the United Arab Emirates, Iraq, Turkey, Afghanistan, Pakistan, Russia, Oman, Azerbaijan, Turkmenistan, Kuwait, Qatar, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Bahrain, and Saudi Arabia.
