Clothes grown from slime mold and tupperware handbags were among the environmentally-friendly designs and ideas presented by fashion graduates at a London arts school on Friday.

The Royal College of Art is holding its annual fashion show, in which students in women swear, menswear, knitwear, footwear, accessories and millinery unveil their creations.

This year, the “All At Once” show looks at the fashion industry’s impact on the environment at a time when many designer houses are seeking to improve their green credentials to appeal to increasingly environmentally conscious consumers.

India, which is emerging as a global textile hub with huge potential, needs to develop man-made fibre to remain competitive in the global market and it aims to be a $350 billion industry by 2025, industry officials June 6 said.

"It is high time that the industry changes its approach to move into the second growth phase and aim for exports of around $100 billion from the current $40 billion," Textiles Secretary Ajit B Chavan said at the CII Texexcel 2019, the National Textiles 4.0 Summit here.

Vietnam has gained nearly USD12.1 billion from exporting garments and textiles in the first five months of this year, posting a year-on-year increase of 10.3 percent.

Revenues of the country's garments and textiles exported to the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) soared 31.6 percent, to South Korea up 16.3 percent, to the United States up 9.8 percent, and to Japan up 6.5 percent.

In May alone, the garment and textile export turnovers reached USD2.6 billion, gaining a year-on-year increase of 10.8 percent.

The new government would have to rethink its policy on turning around India’s second-largest job provider, as the textile sector continues to gasp for growth. Three years after key regulatory and labour changes were put in place, India’s textile and apparel exports have declined from $38.60 billion in 2014 to $37.12 billion in 2018 while imports have increased from $5.85 billion to $ 7.31.

Alyx customer can use a mobile application to scan QR codes and access every information of their purchase.

DLT solution backed by the blockchain aims to further enhance transparency between manufacturers and customers.

Alyx, a colossal name in the luxury fashion industry, recently announced their partnership with IOTA and that they will be using IOTA’s very own blockchain called ‘Tangle” to track their opaque garments supply chain.

ITF urges retailers to source garments locally

Indian Texpreneurs Federation (ITF) has appealed to all brands and retail chains operating in India to source their requirements from within the country instead of importing.

ITF’s appeal comes in the wake of a huge jump in import of readymade garments from Bangladesh.
