This project offers a new CFRP manufacturing process when compared to the two other typically deployed processes which have significant drawbacks that limit their mainstream, high-volume use in the automotive and aerospace industries. One mainstream current technique weaves dry carbon fiber tows into a fabric, layers the fabrics with thermoplastic resin films, and later heats and compresses them into a well-consolidated composite. While this method is ultimately effective in creating a carbon fiber fabric, the process has several drawbacks.

Smriti Irani called for students to look for fusion of disciplines like design, fashion communication etc, which she said matters in "real world." She said the sector only has "ups and ups, and very few downs". She said that the textiles sector is the "second largest employer" in the country.

Total of 243 students graduated at the convocation of the NIFT-Gandhinagar held. The minister also asked the students to explore opportunities in emerging technological advances in the textiles sector to add value to their endeavours.

The textile products, including yarn, fibre, fabric, and home textile, imported by the European Union countries from all over the world in 2017 increased by 3%, compared to the previous year, and amounted to EUR 18.3 billion. Over EUR 1 billion worth of textiles were imported from four countries. The share of these four countries in imports constituted 61.3%.

Prices of Shankar 6, the popular cotton variety used by mills, are ruling at around Rs 43,000 per candy (a candy is about 355 kgs). The landed cost for imported cotton of a similar variety works out to Rs 48,000-50,000 per candy. Especially in the export market, cotton prices are ruling lower than the international market giving mills the much needed momentum.

Major retailers are backing the Cotton Egypt Association’s drive to rid the supply chain of falsely labelled Egyptian Cotton goods. John Lewis and Dunelm, have spoken in support of CEA’s new rigorous accreditation process and ability to DNA test products, and say they will continue to insist suppliers adhere to the new standard. Manufacturers who do not meet the new criteria will no longer be licensed to produce Egyptian Cotton products or use the trademarked logo, the association explains.
