Signatories of the 2020 Circular Fashion System Commitment, an initiative launched in 2017 by the Global Fashion Agenda (GFA), will have to hurry up if they still want to reach all the circularity targets they committed to. GFA’s second yearly assessment of the progress made by fashion brands and retailers was published today and the results are rather disappointing: it turns out they have reached only 45 (21 percent) of the 213 targets set.

Smriti Irani called for students to look for fusion of disciplines like design, fashion communication etc, which she said matters in "real world." She said the sector only has "ups and ups, and very few downs". She said that the textiles sector is the "second largest employer" in the country.

Total of 243 students graduated at the convocation of the NIFT-Gandhinagar held. The minister also asked the students to explore opportunities in emerging technological advances in the textiles sector to add value to their endeavours.

New Zealand students redesign silk saris into western outfits

Students from New Zealand who visited Coimbatore for a six-week internship at Bannari Amman Institute of Technology to learn the minute details of garment manufacturing and design, have turned silk saris into Western wear.

Students from New Zealand took 35 silk saris from Sathyamangalam and redesigned them into Western outfits. These will be at display on Friday during a fashion show hosted by Bannari Amman Institute of Technology.

Linde wins major Olefin plant contract from NKNK

Linde Group awarded a major contract to supply an olefin plant by PJSC Nizhnekamskneftekhim (NKNK), a member of the TAIF Group. As part of this major contract, Linde is responsible for licensing, design, material procurement and technical engineering consulting for the plant in Nizhnekamsk, located in the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia.

NKNK’s new olefin complex will be built in Nizhnekamsk, Tatarstan. In the first expansion stage, it will have the capacity to produce 600 000 tpy of ethylene and over 600 000 tpy of other chemical products.

The Memorandum of Understanding signed last year between Bannari Amman Institute of Technology (BIT), Sathyamangalam and New Zealand Institute of Fashion Technology (NZIFT) for delivering mutual benefit across education, design, manufacturing and community engagement has started not only bringing in goods results but also delivering mutual benefits.

The Indian Apparel and Textile Practicum programme’ was developed by BIT and NZIFT and Giles Brooker Education Development Services Pvt. Ltd (GBE) last year has benefitted two batches.

The third annual Cashmere World trade fair and Forum held in Asia’s fashion hub of Hong Kong ended with success. The Cashmere World exhibited a wide range of styles, quality, designs and services offered by the trade fair participants, according to Alessandra Cocchi, the Moderator of the event.

The mix of exhibitors was truly international and reflected the main cashmere producing nations of the world – Afghanistan, China and Mongolia, as well as other participants notably from India and Indonesia.
