Intertextile Shanghai Apparel Fabrics- Autumn Edition 2014, the world’s largest international apparel fabrics and accessories trade fair recorded a historical high both in the number of exhibitors and visitors. Karnataka Silk Industries Corporation Ltd. (KSIC) has bagged a large order of 10,000 saris from the public sector airline, Air India as the flight attendants will now sport Mysore Silk saris. This single bulk order is worth Rs. 6.5 crore, but that the product’s popularity to soar sky-high, according to the KSIC Chairman B. Basavaraju.

The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) announced on Wednesday that UAE's textile trade will implement the International System of Units (SI). All fabric and textile suppliers and merchant as of today will start using metre as a unit instead of the yard under the national system of measurement and calibration.

Indian textile market going through a temporary phase of slothfulness

Although India saw demand for cotton yarn from China on a declining trend and the European Union market for fabrics and made-ups mired during the last four months. However, the demand for textiles would be picking up soon in India with the festival season just round the corner.
 
Drop in export demand for cotton yarn and the slowdown in the domestic market are only temporary and yarn manufacturers should not panic because of the “temporary slothfulness in the market, according to chairman of Southern India Mills’ Association (SIMA) T. Rajkumar.

Higher incentive and cut in duty for textile exports to lessen trade deficit with China

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council (Texprocil) has urged the ministry for higher incentives including 5 percent duty reduction for exports to China. This incentive will help to put another USD 7 billion worth of fabrics and home textiles into China and reduce the trade deficit of USD 32 billion with China.

India has a USD 32 billion trade deficit with China, in which USD 12 billion worth of imports are allowed to come into India either duty free or at concessional duties. India on the other hand has not acquired any reciprocal benefit.

Pakistan sees escalation in textile and clothing exports

Pakistan textile and clothing products exports witnessed escalation by 5.96 per cent in July-May 2014 from a year ago, mainly owing to a trivial increase in export of value-added products. But only nine textile products witnessed positive export growth among all textile and clothing categories.

In May, exports of textile and clothing saw a marginal growth of 1.19percent over the corresponding period of last year.

A big leap in US textile exports was seen from January to April 2014, during this period they exported textile and apparel worth US$7.857B, growth rate of 2.64 percent year-on-year. Mexico and Canada were to two countries who consumed bulk of textile and apparel exports made by the US.
