Cotton yarn will achieve export target despite high prices - Texprocil

According to the study conducted by the Textiles Export Promotion Council, (Texprocil), cotton yarn exports from India are expected to meet their yearly targets in spite of the high raw cotton prices and seasonal fluctuations that are usually observed during April every year.

Santosh Gangwar, who took charge as minister of state for textiles (independent charge), stated that he soon present a comprehensive plan for the development of the textile industry and work towards promoting Brand India overseas to increase exports.

Soon after taking charge Gangwar told media that, "My aim is to create more jobs, help improve the economy by boosting the textile sector. I shall soon present a roadmap for developing the sector".

The federal Commerce Minister, Khurram Dastgir Khan, has affirmed that they will not trade with India at the cost of ginners, industrialists, and farmers. He also added that new trade policies will be outlined with the approval of all the stakeholders.

A delegation of Pakistan Cotton Ginners Association (PCGA) was convened under the chairmanship of Mukhtar Ahmed Khan Baloch in Islamabad, where the minister announced that new trade policies will be outlined with the approval of all the stakeholders.

Cotton Prices Remain Steady

The prices of cotton in the domestic market of Pakistan have been steady since the last fortnight. The scarcity of unsold ready stock, which is just around a couple of 100,000 bales, is probably one of the biggest reasons of the stagnant prices. The ginners are a bit reluctant to sell their stocks, as new cotton crop (August 2014 to July 2015) is going to trickle in the mid of the July in Sindh and Punjab may not start harvesting before August 2014.

India’s largest polyester manufacturer, Indo Rama Synthetics (India) Limited, announced its audited results for the Quarter and financial Year ended March 31, 2014 on 20 May. For the quarter ended 31 March, 2014, the company’s net revenue stood at Rs 693.47 crore as against Rs 706.99 crore of Q4 of previous year.

The EBIDTA for the period stood at Rs 56.38 crore compared to Rs 22.19 crore for the corresponding quarter in the previous year. Net loss for the period stood at Rs 14.17 crore as compared to a loss of Rs 38.06 crore in Q4 FY13.

Pakistan may not reach the target of 8 million acres set for cotton sowing

Delay in the cotton sowing will result in the late harvesting. The sowing process, which was to be completed by end of May, will finish now by the end of June. The target set for cotton sowing is eight million acres, while the farmer till to date have sown cotton-seeds at about 60 to 65 percent land only.

Farmers might not be able sow the seed on the rest of 35 to 40 percent land by the end of June and are expected to sow cotton at 7.2 acre to 7.4 acre of land in the new season.
