Pakistan to hold TIFA talks with United States from May 11 to May 15 in Washington to outline a joint five-year plan. Under the plan, Pakistan’s potential sectors will get linkages with the US markets. Pakistan is also looking forward to take US authorities’ help to restore back Disney Corporations order to discontinue imports of $150 million of textile products from 16 Pakistani companies because of non-compliance of the labour laws.

TN govt grants Rs.14 lakh to help Coopex bring back traditional saree

The Tamil Nadu government has sanction Rs 14 lakh to state-run Cooptex, a Tamil Nadu Handloom Weavers’ Co-operative Society to help them move ahead with the plan to revive primal traditional saree varieties of Tamil Nadu.

There are very few weavers skilled in making traditional sarees of Tamil Nadu like Kandangi, Sungudi, Chinnalampatti and Koorai Nadu that were popular decades ago. Efforts are on to identify such craftsmen and convince them to start weaving back these traditional sarees for Cooptex.

Final negotiation in progress to secure Turkish textile investment in Ethiopia

After the successful establishment of an integrated textile and garment plan in Ethiopia by Ayka Addis, a subsidiary of Ayka Textile industry in 2007. Ethiopia is now in talks with another Turkish textile manufacturer Akber, who are expressed interest last year to construct the textile plant in Ethiopia which will be the biggest so far.

The final negotiations are in progress to secure a planned investment by Turkish textile manufacturer, Akber. The investment is being prepared but not yet finalized.

The Indian cotton yarn industry feeling the pressure as China has reduced its cotton yarn import after the announcement of China’s new cotton policy. India has witnessed drop by 25 percent in the month of April which is the effect of Chinese policy. Prior to the announcement of China’s policy, India export nearly 50 percent of yarn into China.

Last year the average exports was around 120 million kg which is mainly due to demand from China. But this April yarn exports has plunged to 90 million kg.

Govt to offer 50 pc subsidy on freight charges to boost handloom and textile exports

The government to boost its MSME (micro, small and medium enterprises) products in international markets has decided to give upto 50 percent subsidy to exporters on total freight charges paid on good shipped through ports outside the State.

According to the draft export policy, the exporter will get reimbursement upto 50 per cent on the total cost of transportation subject to a ceiling of Rs.50, 000 on goods shipped outside State port, provided ports within the State do not have facilities for handling such cargo.

Ltd, a subsidiary company of the Taiwan-based Yunlon Group, who operates from the upstream to downstream vertically from spinning, dyeing to garment business has part of its expansion plan will be constructing a textile mill in Dong Van II Industrial Park, Duy Tien district, Vietnam on around 24 hectare of land. This will be the first textile mill with an investment by the Taiwanese group in Ha Nam province of Vietnam.
