Indian cotton yarn export likely to meeting their targets

The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council, (Texprocil) based on its study conducted on cotton yarn, revealed that India's cotton yarns exports are meeting their targets barring the seasonal fluctuations generally witnessed every April and in spite of high raw cotton prices.

India has exported 1082 million kgs of cotton yarn worth US $ 3.75 billion during the 10 month period from April 2013 to January 2014. It is expected that the full year figure likely to be at 1350 mn kgs valued at US $ 4.70 billion.

With most of raw cotton and textile business moving at a slow pace, activity in the cotton economy is said to be close to a standstill. At ready cotton market conditions continued to remain dull, though a few sales of ready cotton took place, but several mills were also unloading their cotton stocks.

Textile mills aver that their cost of production has shot up due to increases in cost of power, gas and labour wages. Not many credible reports were being received regarding any cotton import activity by the mills.

The Kenyan textile industry has made a sizeable contribution to income generation in rural areas by providing a market for cotton. The major factor inhibiting the growth of a textile industry in Kenya is the high cost of electricity and it reliability which accounts for about 35 percent of the cost of fabric production in Kenya, compared to 16 per cent in India.

The Kenyan government has taken up the task to revive its textile and leather sectors, and to improve efficiency in manufacturing companies in order to boost trade in the country.

The Disney family’s investment company via Shamrock Holdings Inc., acquires stake and joins board of RevoLaze, a laser technology company. RevoLaze adds a worn or patterned look to denim textiles without the environmental and social hazards of sand blasting.

RevoLaze uses digital software and ‘high speed, high power’ laser scribing technology to add a worn or patterned look to denim, and can be used on continuous fabrics. The process uses 2500 watts of power with laser scan speeds exceeding 50 metres per second. Speed helps improve production, reduces unit costs and improves profit.
