The Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (Esma) announced on Wednesday that UAE's textile trade will implement the International System of Units (SI). All fabric and textile suppliers and merchant as of today will start using metre as a unit instead of the yard under the national system of measurement and calibration.

KSK and VIB signed MoU with NIFT to revive khadi industry

Karnataka State Khadi and Village Industries Board (KSK &VIB) has signed an MoU with National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) to help revitalize and revive khadi industry and popularize khadi among the younger generation.

NIFT would train clusters of artisans across the State to establish khadi as a brand. The project aims to train around 18,000 persons working in 160 khadi units. This will help to improve the life of skilled artisans as well as update them on the latest trends.

Pakistan’s textile sector alone has the potential to steer the country out of its financial crisis. Keeping this in view, Federal Minister for Textile and Industries Abbas Khan Afridi on Tuesday said that draft of the new textile policy (2014-19) would be ready in a few days and will be forward to the ECC of the Cabinet next week for approval.

He stressed the need for formulating a comprehensive and long-term policy, and said both the government and industry were committed to fully exploit the potential of all related sectors of textile.

Pakistan has signed an agreement with Tadjikistan and Kirghizistan at the beginning of December to enhance the country’s energy supply. With the improvements underway, Pakistan is looking to increase its textile exports over the next nine years, and hopes to increase 2013’s €466m profit further with predictions for $26bn profit in textile exports by 2023.

The Cotton Crop Assessment Committee (CCAC) at the meeting held on Monday assessed cotton crop size for the season 2014-15 at 13.4885 million bales. They have agreed to maintain the cotton crop size for 2014-15 in Punjab at 9.902m bales, Sindh at 3.48m bales, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa at 0.0015m bales and Balochistan at 0.1070m bales, respectively.

Cotton Commissioner Dr Khalid Abdullah informed the meeting about cotton crop condition and status of cotton arrival position in ginning factories. The major obstacles in achieving cotton production targest were climate and seed quality issues.

Taiwanese delegation to be present at the investment summit in India
