Union Textiles Minister Santosh Gangwar on Friday at a press conference talking about the Textile Ministry’s performance in the past two years said that under the scheme for integrated textile parks (SITP) implemented to stimulate development of infrastructure, 24 new textile parks have been sanctioned in the last two years, facilitating investment of Rs 4,500 crore and generating employment for 66,000 people.

Union Textile Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar addressing the 'Make in India-Textile Industry- Strategy for Growth' function, organized by Indian Texpreneurs Federation ((ITF) yesterday said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be dedicating eight garment units in the north eastern state in a month. Each of which will be set up at a cost of Rs18.18 crore, work for the units is going in full swing and will become operational in another one months time.

Union Textile Minister Santosh Gangwar in his written reply in the Lok Sabha, citing estimates of the Cotton Advisory Board stated that the exports from India for 2015-16 are likely to see increase by about 18 per cent compared with the previous fiscal year.

The minister further added that during the cotton year of 2014-15 (from October 1, 2014 to September 30, 2015), 57.72 lakh bales of raw cotton were exported as against 116.96 lakh bales during the cotton year of 2013-14.

The decline in exports was mainly due to substantial reduction in import by China, Gangwar said.

The Centre has decided not to dilute the packaging order now and will take a decision after six weeks based on the situation of the raw jute crisis, said state labour minister Malay Ghatak after meeting Union Textile minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar.

Ghatak said that the raw jute holding limit had been decided. The limit for traders is 1,7000 bales with a limit of 15 days and for mills not more than two months stock. Ghatak, next added to say that he would keep a close vigil on the situation so that mills did not close down.

Central silk board has set up high capacity state-of-the-art silkworm egg cold storage plant at Mysore in Karnataka where up to 1 crore disease free layings (dfls) can be comfortably preserved in this plant. In effect, with this plant, the total storage capacity of the Mysore facility would go up to 1.5 crore dfls.

The new plant was inaugurated by Union Textiles Minister Santosh Kumar Gangwar is expected to give a boost to the production of import substitute bivoltine raw silk in India.

One of the leading focuses of the Modi Government, the textile industry, is all set to foster as an apposite move has been made by the Union Textiles Minister to burgeon the sector’s exports.

He announced that the Government is providing grants under Market Access Initiative and Market Development Assistance Scheme. The grants include assistance to textiles exporters for export promotion activities abroad, assistance to textiles export promotion councils (EPCs) to undertake export promotion activities for their products and commodities.

The North East Region Textile Promotion Scheme (NERTPS) was launched by Union Textiles Minister Dr K S Rao at New Delhi yesterday during a meeting of senior representatives from all the North Eastern states, official sources said here today.

The broad objective of the NERTPS is to develop and modernize the textile sector in the region by providing government support in terms of raw material, seed banks, machinery, common facility centres, skill development, design and marketing support etc.
