The 2019 edition of The Fashion Summit, which bills itself as Asia’s sustainable fashion event, will go ahead in Hong Kong on September 5 and 6.

Co-organisers include the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium and the Clothing Industry Training Authority.

Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd on August 6 reported over threefold jump in its net profit to Rs 21.56 crore for the first quarter ended June 30.

The company had posted a net profit of Rs 5.60 crore in the June 2018 quarter, Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Ltd (ABFRL) said in a statement.

Its net sales rose 7.94 percent to Rs 2,065.46 crore during the quarter, compare with Rs 1,913.52 crore in the corresponding quarter of the previous financial year.

ABFRL's total expenses were at Rs 2,047.83 crore as against Rs 1,916.39 crore, up 6.85 percent.

Burberry introduces Econyl nylon

British fashion brand Burberry has announced the launch of a collection made with Econyl; a ‘sustainable’ nylon yarn made from regenerated fishing nets, fabric scraps and industrial plastic.

This marks the latest brand to incorporate the increasingly popular Econyl into its range, joining counterparts such as Levi’s, Prada and Tchibo.

Inditex demands should be welcomed by linen producers

The textile and sustainability manager at The European Confederation of Flax and Hemp (CELC), Marie Demaegdt, has said she welcomes targets fashion group Inditex has set for linen.

Inditex chief executive, Pablo Isla, told shareholders at a meeting in mid-July that, by 2025, 100% of the cotton, polyester and linen that goes into the products of Inditex’s eight brands (including Zara) will need to be organic, more sustainable or recycled.

According to the Pew Research Center, Muslims are the world's fastest-growing major religious group. By 2050, it estimates there will be 2.7 billion Muslims worldwide, making up 29.7 percent of the global population.
