China stops exporting black clothes to Hong Kong

After months of protests by black-clad demonstrators demanding democracy in Hong Kong, China has come up with a new countermeasure—banning the export of black clothes from the mainland to the territory. The South China Morning Post reports that customs officials in mainland China have ordered courier firms not to send black clothes, and many other items used by protesters, across the border.

The 2019 edition of The Fashion Summit, which bills itself as Asia’s sustainable fashion event, will go ahead in Hong Kong on September 5 and 6.

Co-organisers include the Hong Kong Research Institute of Textiles and Apparel, the Sustainable Fashion Business Consortium and the Clothing Industry Training Authority.

PolyU, Wuyi University sign agreement for green textiles

PolyU, or the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, is all set to endorse and promote green and healthy textiles and in its endeavour to make this happen, it has signed a collaborative agreement with Wuyi University, China.

The agreement distinctly states that both PolyU and the Chinese university will invest significantly in the research and development of green and healthy textiles for a period extending up to 3 years.

With more than 30 Australian woolgrowers toured Vietnam and Hong Kong this month to witness the growth in the use of wool and to hear about the effectiveness of their levy-funded marketing. Australian Wool Innovation’s marketing subsidiary The Woolmark Company has set an ambitious target to absorb three percent of Vietnam’s $27 billion textile export market within four years.

As the 2014-15 financial year saw the Vietnamese textile market acquire 800,000 kilograms of Australian wool - predominantly via early stage processing mills in China.
