Bahrain Autumn Fair 2015 to see 750 exhibitors from 21 countries taking part

The Autumn Fair, Bahrain's biggest annual shopping extravaganza, returns to the Bahrain International Exhibition Centre (BIEC). On sale over the 9-day period will be a massive variety of products as more than 750 exhibitors from 21 countries are set to take part in one of Bahrain's largest consumer exhibitions next month.

Covering more than 15,000 sq m of space, the fair is expected to attract thousands of visitors from Bahrain and abroad with a variety of goods on offer, including textile, fashion, furniture, technology, toys and specialty food.

New Textile Alliance launched in Berlin to move international textile supply chain

Gerd Müller, Germany's Minister for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ), launched a new Textiles Alliance in Berlin on Thursday. Its goal is to help move the international textile supply chain toward better labor and environmental practices. But many key players are refusing to join.

Müller's ministry wants to see improvements at every link in the supply chain - from the cotton fields through the textile dyeing and clothing production process to distribution and retail.

Synthetic fiber prices witnessed decline by 2.5 percent in July

In Asia, the world’s largest fiber-producing region, the prices of synthetic fiber witnessed decline by 2.5% in the month July compared to the same month last year after rising during a few weeks in June. Though an improvement compared to June’s 4 percent drop, there is no indication that demand has return to normal in Asia.
 
However, in China rationalization of polyester supply has kept prices from dropping further. Polyester prices are being pressured by falling cotton prices and a lack of strength in mill demand.

The traditional Mexican `rebozo` a laborious hand woven shawl which was popularized by Frida Kahlo, the late Mexican painter is the focus of the "Made in Mexico" exhibit at the Fashion and Textile Museum in London.

The exhibit explores the role that fashion has played in promoting Mexican culture worldwide from the 17th century to the present and highlights the rebozo as a symbol of Mexican identity. It is unclear when the first rebozos were woven, although the first references to this garment appear in the 16th century.

The Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation (Matrade) is focusing on fashion as it has substantial growth potential and could become Malaysia’s major exports. They also plan to focus on promoting fashion-related programmes this year beginning with the Malaysia Fashion Week to be held in October.

Last year, the lifestyle segment generated RM1.4 billion in sales and they hope to double that this year after the promotion agency signed a memorandum of understanding with Stylo International, a foreign fashion network.
