Bangladesh amid growing demand for cheap clothing and the rest of the Asia disappointed in terms of export revenue in 2014, there was one surprising anomaly to the pattern – Bangladesh’s textile industry surged towards the end of 2015.

Bangladeshi export earnings levitated to $3.2bn last December, thereby setting a new record for the South Asian country. This phenomenal success can be attributed to Bangladesh’s growing apparel industry, which accounted for over 83 percent of December’s figures.

Bangladesh textile industry is dependent on import of fibres from foreign countries, thus the government need to take steps for making the rules industry-friendly, said Jahangir Alamin, former president of Bangladesh Textiles Mills Association (BTMA) addressing a session titled “Bangladesh Spinning Industry in Next Decade” at the Global Cotton Summit Bangladesh-2015 that began in the capital to enhance relations between buyers and suppliers of the product.

Hamid Fabrics to invest Tk70 cr to set up yarn dyeing unit

Hamid Fabrics, a concern of Mahin Group, one of the most reliable players in Bangladesh textile industry, its core activity is to manufacture and export textile fabrics. To meet the growing demand the company plans to set up a yarn dyeing unit with a capacity of producing 15 tonnes of dye a day. The expansion project will involve investment to the tune of Tk70 crore.

The company will buy 50 Air Jet loom machine to set up the unit that will start production in the third quarter of 2015.

Bangladesh to get its first compact cotton yarn unit under a green project

The new venture, Far East Spinning Industries Ltd, will be the first company that will completely manufacture compact yarn in Bangladesh. As the company will be setting up a compact cotton yarn manufacturing plant on 40 bighas of land in Habiganj in the next one and a half years which will involve investment of the tune of approximate Tk150 crore.

Far East Spinning Industries, whose paid-up capital stands at Tk 45 crore, is sourcing finance through a syndicated loan of around Tk 100 crore from IDLC Finance and The City Bank.

Intertek to fast track process of product certification in Bangladesh

Intertek, the world's biggest tester of consumer goods with the opening of its modern testing laboratory in Dhaka this June has made the task of obtaining product certification for exporters quicker, cheaper and simpler.
 
The laboratory is set up at a cost of Tk 42 crore on more than one lakh square feet of land that will provide one-stop service to a total of 17 industries including textile and garment, footwear, agro-processed foods, electrical goods and chemicals.
