The UAE is the world’s third largest exporter of textiles, after USA and UK, according to study conducted by the Directorate General of Commercial Intelligence and Statistics (DGCI&S), Kolkata.

The UAE exported textiles worth $1623.76 million, representing 7.75% share of the global export market .

Mr. Midhat M. Abu Ghazaleh, CEO, Abughazaleh Trading Company, (ABCO) said that of the total textile global exports of over $ 20939.80 million, the UAE commands a share of 7.75%, which reflects strongly on the development of the country’s textile industry.

The UAE textile industry is not only the country’s largest trading sector after oil but it occupies an important place in the UAE economy as a whole and particularly in Dubai, because of its contribution to the industrial output, employment generation and foreign exchange earnings.

UAE's textile exports cover more than 50 countries in Africa, the Middle East, South Asia and Europe, while major exporters are China, South Korea, Japan and Indonesia.

Dubai will stage its debut International Textile Fair (ITF) which is expected to give further boost to the booming UAE textile industry which was valued at 13.2 billion (AED 48.5 billion) in 2011, and is growing at 9.9 percent annually.
 
The ITF will the first dedicated international textile show in the Gulf region bringing together textile manufacturers and designers from all over the world under one platform.
