RIL gets approval from CCI for joint venture in textile business with Chinese firm

Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), India's largest private sector company, on Tuesday said it 'had entered into a definitive agreement for a joint venture in business with China's Shandong Ruyi Science and Technology Group (Ruyi).

According to the agreement, RIL will transfer its existing textile business under the Vimal brand into a newly incorporated company in which RIL will hold 51 per cent stake. The remaining 49 per cent stake will be sold to Ruyi.

Vardhman Textiles expects Q3 margins, revenues not to be great.

Vardhman Textiles is among India's largest manufacturers of yarn, sewing threads & acrylic fiber. It manufactures for brands like GAP, H&M, Uniqlo, Benetton, Wills, Van Heusen, and Peter England.

According to Neeraj Jain, Joint Managing Director, Vardhman Textiles the third quarter results are not expected to be great and revenue could be in single digits or early double digits as compared to around 18 percented reported in Q2.

The decision to keep cotton import quota unchanged at 894,000 tonnes for 2015 by China the world’s largest cotton consumer it is likely that there will still be demand for cotton, even at the 40 percent tariff for non-quota imports. But the market has taken it as a bearish signal that is likely to put further downward pressure on global prices.

The benchmark second-month cotton contract on ICE Futures U.S. ended Dec. 12 at 61.07 U.S. cents a pound, up from the five-year low of 58.53 cents on Nov. 24, but down almost 28 percent since the start of the year.

Organic certification made mandatory for finished textile products

Raw cotton export already required certification under the National Programme for Organic Production (NPOP). It is now required of any finished textile product exported as an organic one such as yarn, fabrics, made-ups and garments as the government has made it mandatory.

R K Dalmia, Chairman, The Cotton Textiles Export Promotion Council said that national standard for organic cotton is a welcome move but the manner in which it is being implemented will create havoc in the organic textile industry and lead to loss of export business.
